What is Quadroot?


The word Quadroot has been hovering over the internet for quite a few days. But, what is Quadroot and what does it do?.

What is Quadroot?

Quadroot is a name of bug in software drivers of Qualcomm chipsets and modems. Quadroot is name of one of the bugs, total there was 4 bugs in software drivers of Qualcomm, which was first discovered by a firm called Checkpoint.

As Checkpoint tells the Qualcomm about the bugs, they started to fix the bugs and already 3 of 4 bugs have been resolve and security patch of August, which includes the fix has been sent to all Nexus devices and other big players like Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola are also on their way to release the update. But, there are only 3 bugs have been resolved and the work on 4th one is going on and it is named as Quadroot.

What does Quadroot do?

Quadroot basically allows a hacker to take control of your device through an app and it can be any app, except the apps which are available on play store. The apps in the play store are totally safe but, the apps which you sideload from websites can make you a victim of Quadroot. For example, you install an app from apkmirror, it will look like as a normal app and will asks for normal permission. But, in the background there are lots of things going on. Once, the app is installed, it will give access of your phone to hacker.

There are total 900 millions devices which are vulnerable to the Quadroot. But, the devices running on MediaTek chipsets and Samsung devices running on Exynos are totally safe only the devices, which are running on Qualcomm chipsets are vulnerable to Quadroot. So, be careful while downloading apps from websites. Checkpoint has released an app in play store to check that your device is safe or not named as Quadroot Scanner
