In October 2014, Google announced the arrival of a new firmware update, Android 5.0 Lollipop. Motorola has been among the brands that promised the new firmware would be available to its devices. Motorola said that Android 5.0 Lollipop would be introduced in its flagships devices including 2013 editions of Moto G and Moto X.
Android Geeks reported that a user named Ayan C asked a question on Twitter to the Motorola Support team on whether Moto X 2013 would be updated to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop or the Android 5.1 Lollipop. In answer to this query, the support team said that the update for the phone is not yet ready. The company said that the update for Android Lollipop will arrive for Moto X 2013 but since the chipset needs some more work, the update has not been made available yet.
Nonetheless, the company did not say when the firmware update would be available for users. Motorola has indicated that although it is working on the update of the firmware to the older Moto X device, it has been struggling with some hardware issue considering that the handset is running on a Snapdragon S4 Pro, a dual core processor. Last month, Luciano Carvalho, the Motorola’s software engineer confirmed that first generation of Moto X was to receive all the major features of second generation of Moto X that aren’t dependent on hardware.
Moto X 2013 is a device that is powered by X8 mobile computing system, a custom version of Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset designed by Qualcomm. Motorola’s X8 chipset has four cores of Adreno 320 GPU and in addition to that, it also comes with two processor cores for applications as well as two less-powered cores intended for contextual computing and natural language.
